Blackburn (Defensive) and Nguyen (Goalkeeper) Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – Fresh off a perfect 2-0-0 week and a pair of clean sheets, Texas Tech defender Macy Blackburn and goalkeeper Faith Nguyen were named the Big 12’s Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week the league announced Wednesday.

Fresh off setting the all-time program assist mark, Blackburn, earned her second career weekly honor while Nguyen takes home her first.

Helping the Red Raiders to a pair of 2-0 wins, Blackburn recorded her long awaited 28th assist in Sunday’s win over No. 12 Oklahoma State. The assist broke the career mark set by future Texas Tech Hall of Famer Taylor Lytle.

Tech’s second honoree this week, Nguyen, also played some of her best soccer this week, as the goalkeeper was the only netminder in the league this week to record a pair of clean sheets.

In the two wins over Utah and OSU, Nguyen made five saves.

The awards are Tech’s second and third Big 12 weekly awards of the season.

Riding a 20-match unbeaten streak in Big 12 play and an 11-match road unbeaten streak, the Red Raiders continue a three-match road swing on Thursday night at Kansas State. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
