Joe Hughes steps down as assistant coach
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock announced Wednesday the resignation of assistant coach Joe Hughes. Hughes, who served 12 seasons on the Texas Tech staff both as Director of Operations and as an assistant coach, intends to step away from college baseball moving forward.
“Joe has played a critical role in the success of our program here at Texas Tech and will be greatly missed,” Tadlock said. “Joe and his family will always be part of our baseball program. We wish them nothing but the best as they move in a new direction in life.”
Hughes, who played under Tadlock at both Grayson County College and Oklahoma, was a charter member of Tadlock’s staff, arriving in 2012 as Director of Operations. He was promoted to an assistant coach ahead of the 2024 season.
During his tenure at Texas Tech, the Red Raiders advanced to the College World Series in Omaha four times, including for the first time in program history in 2014. Texas Tech also captured three Big 12 titles, raising the league crown over three-consecutive seasons from 2016-18.
“I am very thankful to Coach Tadlock, the staff, Administration, Red Raider Nation and most importantly the players for these last 12 years at Texas Tech Baseball.” Hughes said. “My time at Texas Tech has been nothing short of amazing. I will miss working with the guys, but I am looking forward to watching the success of the program as they continue their pursuit to win it all in Omaha.
Tadlock will announce additional details regarding Hughes’ replacement at a later date.
