Literacy Lubbock and the Public Libraries Partnership to Co-host the Lubbock Book Festival
Literacy Lubbock and the Lubbock Public Libraries have partnered to co-host the 3rd Chapter of the Lubbock Book Festival. This event aims to celebrate the written word, connect authors and readers, showcase local authors, and fundraise for Literacy Lubbock’s adult education programs. The festival will be held on Saturday, October 15 th from 10 AM – 6 PM and on Sunday, October 16 from 1 PM – 5 PM at the Mahon Library, with a special kick-off Prologue
Party for donors, sponsors, VIP badge holders, and authors on Friday, October 14 from 7 – 9 PM at the LHUCA.
During the festival, local authors will have booths on our Expo Floor, located throughout the stacks of Mahon Library’s first floor. They will sell books, sign copies, and interact with readers. Scheduled programming will cover a bevy of topics from industry experts, authors, and publishers. A Writer’s Workshop will have scheduled meet times during the festival, where authors in all stages of their writing journey, from newbie to published author, can network, hone their craft, and learn tips and tricks of the industry. In the VIP Lounge, paid attendees will enjoy amenities and perks associated with their badge purchase. Outside, local songwriters, performers, and organizations will entertain audiences.
We also plan to highlight the value and importance of having children foster an early love of reading by designating Sunday as our Kids Day. We’ve gone with a Star Wars theme, and we’ll have kid-centric programming indoors and out.
New this year, we’ll be incorporating school visits into the festival. Mari Mancusi, former Emmy award winning TV producer and author of more than two dozen sci-fi/fantasy books for kids, will visit Friendship Middle School on Friday, October 14 as well. She’ll talk with their sixth graders about the value of reading, writing, and storytelling. Each sixth grader will receive a copy of her book Dragon Ops, courtesy of Literacy Lubbock.
The festival committee has been blessed with passionate members, and we’ve worked with local literary-minded businesses and organizations, such as Barnes & Noble, Wild Lark Books, Caprock Writers Alliance, and LHUCA, to make this festival possible.
