No. 8 Tech Soccer Picked Second in Preseason Big 12 Poll; Four Red Raiders Selected to Preseason All-Big 12 Team
IRVING, Texas – After winning the first Regular Season Big 12 Conference title in program history and being tabbed as the No. 8 team in the country by the United Soccer Coaches poll, Texas Tech Soccer was picked second in the 2024 Big 12 poll, while four different players took home preseason all-conference honors, the conference announced Thursday.
Checking in with 205 points and after earning six first place votes, the Red Raiders earn their highest preseason selection in the poll since 2020 when Tech was predicted to win the league.
Tech finished one point behind preseason favorites BYU, who with 206 total points and nine first place votes were picked to win the league. TCU was picked third (197), followed by Big 12 newcomers Colorado (174), Arizona State (157) and UCF (151). West Virginia (149) were picked seventh, followed by Oklahoma State (145) and Baylor (100).
Arizona and Utah both ended up with 94 total points to finish in a tie for 10th, while both Cincinnati (67) and Kansas (67) both were picked 12th overall.
Houston (61), Iowa State (31) and Kansas State (22) round out the poll.
In addition to Thursday’s poll, four Red Raiders earned Preseason All-Big 12 honors, as the group included juniors Macy Blackburn and Kylie Bahr, sophomore Sam Courtwright and senior Ashleigh Williams.
The Red Raiders four selections are tied with TCU for the most on the 24-player team.
