Red Raiders take third at Wyoming Invite

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2023 season each taking third place at the Wyoming Invite held at the Little America Golf Course Saturday morning.

 

“What a great experience for both teams,” head cross country coach Jon Murray said. “The group did a good job handling the altitude and traveling. It was a solid effort for both teams and I’m proud of the way we competed.”

 

The women were the first to kickoff the 5k meet as two newcomers paced the way placing in the top-4. Juliet Cherubet finished second overall with a time of 17:55.8 while Anastasia Chepkorir placed fourth crossing at 18:13.1. Another newcomer in Lily Mather was the next to score for Tech coming in 19th at 19:38.9. She was followed by Hannah Spears in 21st (19:42.5) and Taylor Limbaugh in 22nd (19:44.3) to round out the scoring total of 62.

 

Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Vincent Koech continued the newcomer trend as he led the way for the TTU men coming in fourth with a time of 15:25.1. Edward Rush was not too far behind in eighth recording a time of 15:29.1. The final three scorers consisted of Demetrius Guerrero in 26th (16:18.7), Paul Sherrill in 28th (16:20.5) and Jaden Tumale in 39th (16:36.8).
