Texas Tech Leads Red Raider Invitational by two strokes after Day One
LUBBOCK, Texas — Powered by a late second round surge, Texas Tech Women’s Golf closed the first two rounds of the Red Raider Invitational atop the leaderboard, Tuesday at the Rawls Course.
Looking to defend their 2023 team title, the Red Raiders bounced back from an opening round 289 (+1), to fire a six-under round of 282 (-6) in Tuesday’s second round.
Led by Maja Ambroziak (-3) who shot a one-under-par 71 in round one and a two-under-par 70 in round 2, the Red Raiders sit in solo first place in the 16-team event.
Closing the day at -3 overall, Ambroziak sits tied for third with teammate and Cameron Freund (Indv.) who fired a second round 69 (-3) to also close the day at -3. Ambroziak fired seven birdies in Tuesday’s second round while her teammate Freund answered with four.
Like Freund, Danique Stoksman also shined as an individual, as the junior used rounds of 72 and 71 to sit tied for 11th after two rounds. Stoksman closed the day at one-under.
Lauren Zaretsky and Klara Hurtova also had strong days on Tuesday, as the duo found themselves tied with Stoksman for 11th. Zaretsky followed up an opening round 71 (-1) with an even-par round of 72, while Hurtova answered an opening round (73) with a strong two-under round of 70 in the afternoon.
One more Red Raider closed the opening day of action inside the top-20, as senior Libby Fleming used rounds of 74 (+2) and 70 (-2) to end the day at even par.
The Red Raiders look to close out the team title during Wednesday’s shotgun final round. The action begins at 9 a.m.
