Yellow House River Fire Update #1

Just after 3:30pm, Lubbock Fire Rescue received numerous 911 reports of a field on fire near the intersection of East 50th Street & East Loop 289. Quint 10, Engine 5, Brush 5, and Engine 1 were dispatched. Quint 10 arrived on scene to a large field on fire started by a transformer. Due to the dry ground conditions, wind, and difficulty accessing the fire, additional units were requested from both LFR, County, and Texas A&M Forest Service.

The fire is currently contained and there is zero hazard to the public. Crews will be assigned to this fire throughout the night through late tomorrow morning (08/22/24) to monitor. Residents and drivers can expect to see and smell a significant amount of smoke in the area of East 50th Street & East Loop 289. We advise those with sensitive respiratory conditions to take precautions, such as staying indoors and keeping windows and doors closed.
