Calum Scott ties for 11th at NCAA Championship
CARLSBAD, Calif. — Texas Tech’s Calum Scott capped off a stellar 72-hole performance at the NCAA Championships on Monday at Omni La Costa’s North Course with a final-round card of 2-under-par 70, which tied the second-lowest score of the day.
Scott ultimately finished tied for 11th of 81 on the final individual leaderboard as the round-four card improved the junior to an even-par 288 (76-74-68-70) in the tournament — just three shots back of the individual national champion Hiroshi Tai of Georgia Tech — and was one of 11 cards finished par or better over the 72-hole event. Furthermore, it was the third-lowest individual card by a Red Raider since the NCAA Championships implemented the four-round format leading into team match play in 2015, trailing Ivan Ramirez’s 5-under-par performance in 2018 and Ludvig Aberg’s 1-under-par in 2021.
The placement was a career-best for Scott at the NCAA Championships, as he had previously failed to advance to the event’s final round in both 2022 and 2023. It was also his team-best eighth top-20 finish of the season.
Scott shot out of the gates with a bogey-free back nine that featured a pair of birdies — the first coming on the 596-yard, par-5 10th hole to open the round —and was unblemished until he suffered back-to-back bogeys on the second and third holes. The junior responded with birdies on three of his next six holes, which was capped by his fifth birdie of the day on the ninth hole to end an impressive NCAA Championships run.
Scott now looks forward to representing the International Men’s Team at the Arnold Palmer Cup, which will take place July 5-7 at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland.
