Four Red Raiders post wins on second day of tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – A total of four Red Raiders are in the singles main draw at the West Texas Pro Tennis Open after two posted wins in qualifying on Tuesday afternoon.

Five-seeded Olle Wallin defeated the nine-seed, Nathan Chavez, in straight-sets by two scores of 6-2, pushing him to the main draw.

Then, Tyler Stewart took on the 14-seed, Isaac Nortey, in the second round of qualifying, winning the battle with a 7-6 (6), 7-5 match to advance to the main draw.

Both No. 51 Isaac Arevalo and Dimitrios Azoidis also competed in their first matches of the tournament.

Taking on 4-seed and ITA No. 56-ranked Patrick Zahraj of UCLA in the first round, Arevalo would win in a three-set thriller. Arevalo took the first set in a breaker, 7-6 (5), but would drop the second set, 5-7. The Red Raider would easily win the next set, 6-1, to advance to the second round of the main draw.

Azoidis also had his first-round matchup in the main draw and was able to defeat Rei Sakamoto in three. After falling 3-6 in the first set, Azoidis would go on to win the next two sets by scores of 6-1 and advance in the tournament.
