Garden & Arts Center Offers Summer Classes for Youth and Teens

The Lubbock Municipal Garden & Arts Center is excited to offer a diverse range of Summer Youth Art Classes for students aged 10 to 17 years. These classes provide an opportunity for young artists to explore various art mediums, enhance their skills, and express their creativity.

Limited spots available; early registration is recommended. All classes take place at the Garden & Arts Center located at 4215 University Ave in Lubbock.

 CLAY: $180 per student for 2 weeks

Class 1: June 3rd – 14th | 9am-12pm

Class 2: June 17th – 28th | 9am-12pm

Class 3: July 8th – 19th| 9am-12pm

Learn the fundamentals of working with clay. Students will learn various techniques such as hand-building, coil-building, slab construction, and surface decoration. They will learn about bisque and glaze firing techniques so that each student will have a collection of their own handmade ceramic artworks. Class is open to all experience levels.

TEEN IMPROV!  Improv class is $100 per student

  1. Class 1: July 8th – 12th | 1pm-4pm

Students will learn improv theatre from professionals of West Texas Comedy. In this course, students will develop skills in confidence, comedy, collaboration, stage presence, and much more.

FUNDAMENTALS OF PRINTMAKING: Printmaking classes are $100 per student

Class 1: June 3rd – 7th | 9am-12pm

Class 2: June 17th – 21st | 9am-12pm

Class 3: July 8th – 12th | 9am-12pm

Learn the essentials of printmaking, covering matrix creation, ink application, and impression techniques. Learn about various printmaking methods like relief and intaglio. Experiment with different matrices and paper types. Discover the art of editioning and registration in this hands-on class, creating your own unique prints.

ALTERNATIVE PROCESS PHOTOGRAPHY: Alt Photography classes are $100 per student

Class 1: June 3rd – 7th | 1pm-4pm

Class 2: June 10th – 14th | 1pm-4pm

Learn the fundamentals of digital photography, including composing a shot, adjusting camera settings, and using natural light. Explore the art of storytelling through photography and bookmaking. Create your own book.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY & BOOKMAKING: One-week course $100 for the course

Class 1: June 17th – 21st | 1pm-4pm

Class 2: June 24th – 28th | 1pm-4pm

Learn the fundamentals of digital photography, including composing a shot, adjusting camera settings, and using natural light. Explore the art of storytelling through photography and bookmaking. Create your own book.

Registration & pre-payment for classes is required for enrollment. Registration & pre-payment will close the week before each class and those on the waitlist will be contacted to fill unpaid spots. All classes hold limited spots and fill quickly – early registration is encouraged to secure your spot!
