Red Raiders fall 23-0 to No. 1 Longhorns

LUBBOCK – No. 1 Texas hit six home runs en route to a 23-0 win over Texas Tech on Saturday at Rocky Johnson Field.

The Red Raiders (28-19, 8-15 Big 12) were limited to three hits in the game while the Longhorns (44-6, 22-4 Big 12) extended their winning streak to 15 after finishing with 20 hits. Texas leads the series 2-0 going into the finale at noon on Sunday.

Mimi Blackledge (0-3) took the loss for the Red Raiders after allowing seven runs on six hits in one inning of work. Maddie Kuehl and Olivia Rains threw two innings each. Abbie Orrick was 2-for-2 to lead the Tech offense, finishing with a single and a double. Kailey Wykoff recorded her 12th double of the season and finished the game 1-for-2.

Citlaly Gutierrez (10-0) earned the victory for the Longhorns after striking out six and not walking a batter in a complete-game effort. Reese Atwood led Texas with two home runs and nine RBI, while Katie Stewart also had two home runs and finished the game 4-for-5 with five RBI. Atwood now has 19 home runs on the season and Stewart has 11 going into the regular-season finale. Kayden Henry and Leighann Goode had one homer each.

Texas Tech goes into its final home game of the season with a 9-9 record at Rocky Johnson Field and is now 1-19 against opponents ranked No. 1 with its only win coming against Arizona back in 1998.
