WAIMEA, Hawaii – Texas Tech sophomore Baard Skogen finished as the individual runner-up and the No. 11 Red Raiders also took second in the team standings at The Amer Ari Invitational on Saturday to begin their fall season.
The Red Raiders finished the three-day tournament at 49-under-par, falling one stroke back of No. 3 Oklahoma State which rallied to win the tournament at 50-under. The Cowboys stormed back by shooting 24-under in the final round. Along with Skogen’s strong showing, junior Garrett Martin earned sixth by shooting 14-under at the tournament and Calum Scott and Ludvig Aberg were both at 9-under for top-15 finishes.
Skogen secured the second-place finish by shooting 17-under during the 54-hole event, including carding a 4-under on Saturday. A Norway native, he shot 66-65-68 – 197 for the week which fell just back of Oklahoma State’s Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra who won at 19-under after making an eagle on his final hole. Lopez-Chacarra finished his final round at 10-under to win the title. Skogen now has three top-10 finishes this season after also finishing as the runner-up at the Maridoe in the fall.
A San Antonio native, Martin climbed up the leaderboard by making two eagles in his final round along with six birdies. He finished the tournament by shooting 68-67-67 – 202 to secure his first top-10 finish of the 2021-22 season. Scott began his day with an eagle and finished at 3-under while Aberg shot 1-under on Saturday.
Andy Lopez finished the tournament at 3-under after posting a 2-over on Saturday.
Texas Tech returns to competition at The Prestige from Feb. 21-23 in La Quinta, California.
