Skriabina, Tech Women’s Tennis Win Torero Tennis Classic

SAN DIEGO – Behind a perfect 3-0 singles weekend from sophomore Margarita Skriabina, the Texas Tech women’s tennis program took home the team title at the Torero Tennis Classic hosted by the University of San Diego at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center this weekend.  

Skriabina shined all weekend, as the sophomore won the top draw.  

The Russian started the weekend with a big straight sets victory over No. 21 Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford (6-2, 6-4).  

On Saturday, Skriabina notched her second ranked victory of the weekend, dropping No. 22 Petra Hule of No. 15 6-1, 6-3.  

Sunday, the Second Team All-Big 12 selection completed the perfect weekend by defeating No. 44 Solymar Colling of San Diego in three sets.  

Other strong performances this weekend included freshman Avelina Sayfetdinova and Kailey Evans winning their doubles draw, and Oliva Peet going a perfect 3-0 in singles action.  

UP NEXT:
Tech women’s tennis returns to action on Friday when UTEP and Abilene Christian visit the McLeod Tennis Center. First serve for the match against UTEP is set for 10 a.m., with the ACU match scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
