Tech holds on for fifth-straight win

SAN MARCOS, Texas– The Red Raiders picked up their seventh win of the season in a offense-heavy game against Northern Colorado (2-7) on Sunday.

The game was not for purists as both teams combined for 19 runs, 18 hits and seven errors but despite the sloppy play by both teams, Tech (7-2) pulled out the 10-9 victory.

The Bears jumped on Tech early with a run in the opening inning. The Red Raiders answered back and then some as they put up four in their half of the first to take a 4-1 lead.

Singles by Carson Armijo, Dee McClarity and Riley Love pushed baserunners across the plate to give Tech a nice cushion.

Northern Colorado responded with a crooked number of their own as they put up five in the second inning to take back control of the lead.

A Kailey Wyckoff single pushed across another run for Tech in the second, but they still trailed 6-5 heading into the latter half of the game.

The Bears tacked on two more runs in the fourth to make it an 8-5 game before Love brought Tech within one following a two-RBI double in the fifth.

Olivia Rains, who picked up her second win, was able to hold the Bears to nothing in the sixth which allowed Tech to take advantage. Aubrey Barnhart recorded a two-RBI single which was followed by an RBI double from Armijo.

Northern Colorado hit a solo homer in the seventh to make it interesting, but the Red Raiders held on to collect their fifth-straight win.
