Texas Tech claim three USTFCCA Regional awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Wes Kittley and Zach Glavash each earned coaching honors, while Omamuyovwi Erhire represented the Texas Tech field athletes as the USTFCCCA announced its indoor regional awards Thursday afternoon.

 

Kittley was named the Mountain Region Men’s Coach of the Year, Glavash was named the Mountain Region Men’s Assistant of the Year and Erhire claimed the Moutain Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

 

For Kittley, it’s his 16th overall regional honor and seventh indoors. In his 25th season at the helm, Kittley delivered the program’s second national title and first indoors last weekend in Boston. The Red Raiders scored 50.5. points to win the meet by 9.5 points over second place and slim favorite Arkansas. Tech won three individual events including Terrence Jones winning both the 60m and 200m as Caleb Dean claimed the 60m hurdles title. Before the national meet, Tech claimed the men’s indoor title for a second-straight season, scoring 152 points.

 

Glavash earns his second-straight regional indoor honor. His group of Red Raider sprinters accounted for 47 of the team 50.5 points at the NCAA meet. Under his tutelage, Jones captured back-to-back 60m titles and added a 200m title to his name. Shaemar Uter also scored 6th in the 400m, while the Tech 4×400 squad placed fourth. The Red Raiders tallied 90 of the 152 from the sprints side at the Big 12 Championship, ending the night with a school record in the 4×400 win.

 

Erhire claims his first regional honor after a First Team All-American performance at the NCAA indoor meet. Erhire tied for fifth in the high jump clearing 2.18m (7-1 ½). A few weeks prior at the Big 12 meet, he took second in the high jump, equaling his personal best of 2.23m (7-3 ¾) before placing fourth in the triple jump at 15.54m (51-0).
