Texas Tech hosts No. 24 Iowa State on Wednesday evening

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are finally back at home as they host No. 24 Iowa State on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena.

 

The Lady Raiders (13-5, 2-3 Big 12) are coming off a tough loss at Oklahoma last Saturday, 55-73. In the game, Jordyn Merritt led the team with 13 points followed by Bailey Maupin with 12. Both Kilah Freelon and Ashley Chevalier posted a team-high seven rebounds, while Elina Arike had a season-best five assists.

 

The Lady Raiders are averaging 70.2 points per game while holding opponents to just 59.4 points per game. Tech is shooting 41.8 percent from the field and totaling 14 assists per game. On defense, the Lady Raiders check in at 29th in the NCAA with 20.67 turnovers forced per game and are also holding teams to just 27.3 percent from the 3-point range.

 

As a team, the Lady Raiders are 31st in the nation making 15.17 free throws per game and boast the top free-throw percentage in the Big 12 at 75.6 percent. Tech is led in scoring by both Maupin (15.2 ppg) and Jasmine Shavers (14.6 ppg). Freelon is leading the rebounding efforts with 5.8 boards per game, followed by Shavers with 5.6 and Merritt with 5.2.

 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The No. 24-ranked Iowa State Cyclones are coming into the game with a 12-4 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 conference record to lead the Big 12. Some key wins have come against Oklahoma State (76-68), Kansas (69-61), No. 24 West Virginia (74-64) and No. 4 Baylor (66-63). The Cyclones have lost to Drake (73-85), Vanderbilt (53-68), Syracuse (69-81) and No. 4 Iowa (58-67). As a team, Iowa State is in the top-20 nationally in a lot of statistical categories, including fourth in defensive rebounds per game (32.8), seventh in rebound margin (13.0), eighth in three-point percentage (.386), 14th in assists per game (19.2) and 18th in 3-pointers per game (8.9). Two Cyclones total double-figure scoring as Audi Crooks averages 16.7 and Addy Brown with 14.6 points per game. Brown, who leads the team with seven double-doubles, also has a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game followed by Crooks with 6.5.
