Uter runs the No. 2 400m time in the nation

MANHATTAN, Kan. – In one of the final events of the day, Shaemar Uter tied Tech’s No. 2 all-time mark in the 400m and moved to No. 2 in the nation to cap off day two of the Deloss Dodds Invitational Friday evening at the K-State Indoor Track and field Complex.

 

Uter entered the day with a 400m time of 46.04 which was good for No. 6 in the nation but that all changed. In the first heat, Uter first split came in at 21.62 before a final time of 45.97. His time tied Steven Champlin’s No. 2 school mark set back in 2018.

 

Cole Omlin started the meet for Tech competing in the final day of the heptathlon. Omlin clocked a 9.28 in the 60m hurdles to begin the day before recording a “no height” in the pole vault.

 

He capped off his day on a stellar note with a 21-second PB in the 1000m as he clocked in at 2:50.77, taking third overall. Omlin finished eighth overall in the heptathlon standings, totaling 4,443 points.

 

The women’s pole vault saw the Red Raiders for 1-2-3-4. Kashlee Dickinson led the way in first, while Olivia Cade placed second. Both cleared 4.17m (13-8.25). Mackenzie Hayward and Kaitlyn Banas finished third and fourth, respectively at 4.02m (13-2.25).

 

Tamiah Washington paced the way for Tech in the women’s long jump as she finished second with a mark of 6.00m (19-8.25). Grace Oshiokpu made her season debut placing fourth at 5.98m (19-7.50).

 

Over on the men’s side, Zaid Latif made his Red Raider debut as his first leap of 7.53m (24-8.50) stood as the winner. Stacy Brown Jr. finished fourth at 7.40m (24-3.25).

 

The women’s 60m sprint final saw three new PB times led by Alyssa Colbert taking first with a time of 7.17. Success Umukoro (7.28, PB) finished third, Serena Clark (7.37) fourth and Adriane Nwonumah (7.40, PB) fifth. As of tonight, Colbert’s time is third in the nation.

 

Don’Dre Swint paced the men winning the final with a time of 6.58. Shawn Brown (6.68) placed second, Josh Bour (6.83) went fifth, Jack Marshall (6.85) placed sixth and Danile Omah (6.93) finished seventh.

 

In the men’s weight throw it was a 2-3 finish for Tech. Mechler paced the way with a throw of 21.41m (70-3) as Konner Wood set a new PB toss of 21.10m (69-3), making it back-to-back weeks with a new PB mark.

 

Notables

Carson Dittel won the two-man pole vault competition clearing 4.91m (16-1).
Samuel Alves took second in the two-man 60m hurdles final with a PB time of 7.94.
Carl Hicks posted a PB time of 46.89 in the 400m as wells as Bradley Peralta at 47.59.
Zariere Dumas finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 55.80.
