Women’s Golf season set to resume in the Sunshine State

• The UCF Knights, the newly minted Big 12 program, is set to host the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
• This will be the Red Raiders’ second time competing at the UCF Challenge as their only other appearance was in the spring of 2018. Texas Tech finished 11th (out of 16) in its first-ever trip to the UCF Challenge, firing a 25-over-par 889, also at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
• The Red Raiders lowest round at the 2018 UCF Challenge was shot in the third round, a 2-over-par 290.
• The five who represented Texas Tech at the 2018 UCF Challenge were Mami Yamamoto, Gabby Barker, Lauren Mason, Amy Taylor and Louisa Brunt. Yamamoto registered the lowest finish, tying for 24th with a 6-over-par 222.
• Sixteen of the 18 teams competing at the UCF Challenge are ranked inside the SCOREBOARD Top 100, which includes No. 52 Texas Tech; two teams are inside the Top 25 in host UCF at No. 13 as well as No. 14 Northwestern.
• This event will mark Texas Tech’s first event of the 2024 spring season after competing in five events in the fall. The Red Raiders have five events on its regular season spring schedule before the Big 12 Championships, April 18-20.
• Last time out, Tech was fueled by a final round of 16-under-par at the Jim West Challenge, which helped secure a runner-up finish. Sophomore Shannon Tan led the way for the Red Raiders in the third and final round, firing a career-low 8-under-par 64 which boosted her up the individual leaderboard for a second-place finish marking her second-straight top-10 finish.
• Tan announced she would be turning professional over the winter break after successfully securing her card on the Ladies European Tour (LET) on Dec. 20.
• Weather at the UCF Invitational is forecasted to have a chance of thunderstorms on Sunday with rain chances decreasing each day thereafter. Highs are forecasted in the 60s each day.
