Red Raiders take series finale against UCF, 5-4

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders (22-10, 3-6) took the series finale against UCF (16-15, 4-8) 5-4 thanks to opportune hitting and a gutsy 153-pitch outing from Maddy Wright.

Tech needed just five hits for its five runs, but none bigger than Kailey Wyckoff’s three-run bomb in the second inning.

Wyckoff’s homer was set up by a UCF error that put Demi Elder on first base to lead off the inning. Abbie Orrick then roped a single into left followed by a Kennedy Crites hit to load the bases with no outs.

Raegan Jennings then stepped up and drove in two runs with a single up the middle before Wyckie cleared the bases with a 239-foot shot over the left-center field fence to give Tech a 5-0 lead.

Wright held the Knights scoreless in the first three innings and finished the game with five strikeouts.

“I loved our fight today,” said Craig Snider. “We had our back against the walls, some bad things have happened to us the last two games, but they came back and responded and I am very proud of that.”

And fight they did as UCF rattled off one run in each of the last four innings but left nine runners on base in total as Tech overcame two errors to secure the win.

UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will be back on the road as they take on Abilene Christian on April 3 before heading to Waco for a three-game series with Baylor.
