Harmony Public Schools and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine To Host Middle School To Medical School Completion Ceremony
Harmony Science Academy (HSA) and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) will host the Middle School To Medical School completion ceremony on Monday, May 22.
The partnership between HSA and TTUHSC, which provides middle school students the opportunity to learn more about the medical field, began in November 2022.
“Middle School to Medical School is a program created to give students the opportunity to be exposed at an intimate level to the medical career,” Dr. Morales said. “Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, the eighth graders from Harmony Science Academy have had the opportunity to listen to current medical school students’ testimonials on their stories and journey, including struggles to get to medical school. They have also had the chance to attend an event held by the Health Sciences Center called the Future Healthcare Professionals’ Experience. Here they were able to not just explore medicine, but many other healthcare professions. The students then had a lunch with our very own medical students to just have a chat and ask anything they wanted from them.”
During the ceremony, Felix Morales, M.D., associate dean of the School of Medicine Office of Admissions, will address HSA students and present them with certificates of completion. TTUHSC medical students and HSA students will then share their testimony on how the program has helped them.
“The partnership with TTUHSC has been a wonderful experience for our students,” said Harmony Science Academy Principal, John Demir. “We look forward to continuing this for many years to come.
