Texas Tech returns home for game against UC Irvine

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back at home after a successful road trip as they take on the UC Irvine Anteaters this Wednesday, November 29 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. The Lady Raiders hold an all-time 2-0 record over the ‘Eaters as the two teams last played on December 4, 1987, with Tech coming out on top by a 65-60 score.

 

The Lady Raiders return to Lubbock with two more wins on their schedule. Tech took down Rutgers to open the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic, led in points by Jasmine Shavers (28) and Bailey Maupin (24). Against Santa Clara, the Lady Raiders were off to a slow start as the Broncos led the game for 27 minutes and held a lead as large as nine. However, Tech never gave up and posted a 24-point fourth quarter to win the game and remain undefeated on the season.

 

Both Maupin and Shavers were named to the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team, with Maupin being named the Most Outstanding Player. In the two games of the tournament, Maupin led the team with 17.5 ppg and 6.0 apg, while adding 5.0 rpg and 56 percent 3-point shooting. Shavers posted a new career-high against Rutgers with 28 points as she recorded 17.0 ppg, a team-best 5.5 rbg and shot 36 percent from the field (10-of-28).

 

The Lady Raiders have been pretty good at getting to the free-throw line as they are 39th in the nation and 1st in the Big 12 in free throw attempts per game (22.43). They also are ranked 17th nationally and 1st in conference with 17.14 free throws made per game. In addition, Maupin has a knack at drawing fouls as she checks in at 14th nationally and 1st in the Big 12 with 37 free throws made.

 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

UC Irvine is 4-2 on the season with victories over Seattle U (74-43), Eastern Washington (71-63), St. Thomas (74-63) and Pacific (66-60). Their two losses came against Pepperdine (58-63) and Saint Mary’s (37-52). UC Irvine is led in scoring by Deja Lee with 14.2 ppg, followed by Nevaeh Parkinson with 10.2 ppg. In addition, Parkinson leads the team with 6.3 rbg and Nevaeh Dean is just behind with 4.0 rpg. The assist leader for the ‘Eaters is Diaba Konate with 27 through six games. The Anteaters are coached by Tamara Inoue who is in her eighth overall season with the Anteaters as well as eighth season in her career. She also boasts an all-time record of 121-99 in her career.
