No. 24 Tech, Comegys remain in Top Five at Amer Ari Intercollegiate

KOHALA COAST, Hawai’i — After another rock-solid collective score of 16-under par 272 on Friday, the No. 24 Texas Tech men’s golf team sits fifth on the team leaderboard through two rounds at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate. The Red Raiders trail the fourth-place No. 5 Washington Huskies by just one shot, while No. 2 North Carolina remains atop the leaderboard after shooting 20-under-par 268 on Friday.

Matthew Comegys followed a career day on Thursday with another strong performance of 4-under-par 68 in round two. The sophomore was consistent throughout the round, as he fired four birdies, three of which came on the front nine while suffering just one bogey on hole No. 8. Comegys’ total score of 13-under-par 131 leads the Red Raiders and has him in fourth place on the individual leaderboard. He trails Finn Koelle of Washington and Jackson Koivun of Auburn by just one stroke for second place while Arizona State’s Wenyi Ding leads the field at 17-under-par 127.

A resurgent day from Baard Skogen also aided the Red Raiders on the scoreboard. The senior shot up 26 spots into a tie for 23rd on the individual leaderboard after posting a 2-under-par 66 on day two. Skogen set the tone for the round with a birdie on hole No. 15 to start the day and ultimately finished with six birdies total while adding an eagle on hole No. 10.

Calum Scott and Tyran Snyders find themselves in a tie for 32nd after 36 holes, along with nine seven others. Posting a 1-under-par 71 in round two, Snyders began his day with a birdie on hole No. 13 before rattling off three straight birdies from No. 18 to No. 2 en route to five total on the day. Scott’s day was highlighted by an eagle on hole No. 10, which was part of a strong finish to the round as the junior posted a bogey-free back nine.

Rounding out the Red Raiders’ day two performances was Vicente Marzilio, who positioned himself in a tie for 54th with a strong back-nine that featured four birdies and an eagle on hole No. 7.

Price Hill, who is competing in the Amer Ari as an individual, continued his electric run at the event with a career-best 7-under-par 65 on Friday. After bogeying on hole No. 16 to start the round, Hill bounced back with seven straight birdies from No. 17 to No. 5 and capped his day with an eagle on No. 15. The freshman enters the final 18 in a six-way tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard.

The final round of the Amer Ari will kick off with a shotgun start on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. local time at the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club. The Red Raiders will be paired with members of Oklahoma State, Stanford and Georgia Tech for the final 18.
