Bears walk-off Tech; Blackledge has strong outing despite loss

WACO, Texas – Down 0-1 entering the top of the seventh, Kennedy Crites launched her second homer of the season over the left-field fence to tie the game and breathe some extra life into the Red Raiders. The No. 21 Baylor Bears answered back in the last inning, however, to take a 2-1 victory and spoil an excellent outing from freshman Mimi Blackledge.

Blackledge gave up a lead-off homer to the open the game Tech (24-11, 4-7), but settled in and delivered five shutout innings as she finished the game going 6.2 innings and allowing seven hits and just two runs. The freshman entered the game having pitched just 10 innings but looked like seasoned veteran in the circle today as she brought her ERA down to 3.85.

Tech recorded just five hits as the Bears (20-14, 4-10) RyLee Crandall had a stellar outing of her own. Kailey Wyckoff, Arriana Villa and Kennedy Crites all recorded doubles off her – along with Crites’ seventh-inning homer – while Riley Love knocked a base hit up the middle that almost scored Wyckoff before she was called out on a close play at home.

The Red Raider’s defense backed up Blackledge well with three double plays, a season-high for them.

UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will face No. 21 Baylor again tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a rubber match.
