Freshman TJ Pompey Tabbed Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

IRVING, Texas – After helping lead No. 18 Texas Tech to a school-record 32 runs on Friday afternoon and on the heels of a strong first full week of the season, Tech freshman TJ Pompey has been tabbed the Big 12s Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Open to both true freshman as well as transfers from any conference excluding the Big 12, Pompey took home the award after going 11-for-24 (.458) this week with a pair of home runs and 11 RBIs. The freshman also scored 11 runs and reached base in all five games last week.

The award for Pompey is the first weekly award for a Red Raider this season and comes after Tech recorded a strong 4-1 week last week.

Pompey shared the weekly honors with Texas’ Peyton Powell (Player) and Lebrarron Johnson (Pitcher).

The Red Raiders returns to action this weekend when they welcome Gardner-Webb for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m.
