Red Raiders conclude Corky Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up the final day of the seventh-annual Corky Classic Saturday afternoon at the Sports Performance Center.

 

All-American Caleb Dean made his season debut in the 60m hurdles clocking in at 7.68 in his first run, followed by a 7.55 finals run for second overall. That time is No. 2 all-time for Tech as Dean now holds the top-4 fastest times in the event for TTU. As of Saturday afternoon, his 7.55 mark is the fastest in the country and fastest in the world. Meanwhile, Antoine Andrews officially got his season mark in with a time of 7.62 in the finals for a third-place outing – No. 2 fastest time in the country as of Saturday afternoon.

 

A pair of Red Raiders made their indoor debut following a stellar cross country season. All-American Juliet Cherubet placed first in the women’s mile with a time of 4:48.88, while Gideon Kiplimo did the same, clocking in at 4:13.00.

 

In the horizontal jumps, Ruta Lasmane made her season debut in the triple jump bounding 13.71m (44-11.75) to walk away in second place. On the men’s side, it was a 3-4 finish from Garison Breeding and Stacy Brown Jr. Breeding leaped 15.82m (51-11) in his Red Raider debut as Brown Jr. secured a new PB with a mark of 15.75m (51-8.25).

 

The “A” relay team of Dean, Charlie Bartholomew, Shawn Brown and Shaemar Uter clocked in a time of 3:04.71 for the second-fastest time in school history. Meanwhile, the “B” relay team Carl Hicks, Josh bour, Oskar Edlund and Jalen Drayden combined for a time of 3:06.70 with Bour running a 45.3 split.

 

Notables 

  • Liam Walsh (2nd, 2:24.50) and Vincent Koech (3rd, season debut, 2:27.10) in the 1000m.
  • Kashlee Dickinson led the way for the women’s pole vault crew with a huge PB of 4.25m (13-11.25).
  • In his only sprint of the day, Terrence Jones clocked in at 6.56m in the 60m, giving him a top-5 time in the country.
  • Field Gatlin paced the women’s shot put team coming in 2nd with a mark of 15.92m (52-2.75). McKenzie Davis (6th, 15.15m | 49-8.50) and Faith Mitchell (14.72m | 48-3.50) secured PBs.
  • Success Umukoro (23.49), Alyssa Colbert (23.50) and Serena Clark (23.64) all finished with PB times.
  • In the women’s 3000m, Jenna Carter (10:25.52) and Sarah Zdansky (10:41.16) each finished with PB times.
