Red Raiders end weekend with 9-1 win over Aggies

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech picked up its fourth win of the weekend after defeating New Mexico State 9-1 in five innings on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Raiders (17-4) fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third but stormed back with back-to-back four-run innings in the bottom of the third and fourth.

Aubrey Barnhart drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game before Arriana Villa put a ball in play to score Kennedy Crites.

Riley Love reached on an error the next at-bat to score Logan Halleman and Kailey Wyckoff hit a sac-fly into left field to score Barnhart.

In the fourth, Logan Halleman’s speed played a big role as she stole second and then advanced to third on a bad throw after beating out an infield hit.

Villa got some RBIs, hitting a three-run shot to left field. Villa led the team with four RBIs and improved her batting average to .359.

Abbie Orrick closed out the game with a home run in the fifth to trigger a run-rule.

Maddie Kuehl improved to 5-3 after striking out nine batters, which set a new career-high for the junior. Kuehl allowed just two hits and one run through a great 5.0 inning outing.

UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will begin Big 12 on Thursday against BYU before coming back home for a doubleheader against New Mexico on March 12.
