Red Raiders in the NFL – Training Camp Edition

LUBBOCK, TX – The 2023 edition of NFL Training Camp is well underway, which features 21 former Texas Tech football players on various NFL rosters. With week one of the preseason kicking off Thursday night, it’s the beginning of the first full weekend in 2023 to catch Red Raiders in NFL uniforms.

Thursday night football features the Houston Texas at the New England Patriots (6 p.m.) as well as the Minnesota Vikings at the Seattle Seahawks (9 p.m.). Out of the four teams featured, former Red Raider Cody Davis is on the Patriots’ roster while Jordyn Brooks and SaRodorick Thompson Jr. are on the Seahawks’ roster.

The annual Hall of Fame game gave fans their first taste of NFL football last Thursday. That game featured rookie Marquis Waters, starting for the Jets at safety, lining up against the Browns, who rosters both Jakeem Grant Sr. and Dawson Deaton. Waters logged four tackles in his first NFL action, meanwhile, Grant and Deaton did not play.

From the 2022 Red Raiders, five made it on respective rosters, highlighted by Tyree Wilson, the No. 7 overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. He was the highest-drafted defensive player in school history while it was the 10th time in program history a Red Raider was selected in the first round. Wilson is currently listed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list, recovering from his injury suffered during the 2022 season at Texas Tech.
