Red Raiders wrap up Texas Relays weekend

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up the final day of the 96th Texas Relays winning six events Saturday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

 

The women’s 4×100 claimed the first event win of the afternoon in the women’s 4×100. After clocking in the fastest time yesterday in the prelims (44.02), the team of Rosemary Chukwuma (leadoff), Success Umukoro (second leg), Alyssa Colbert (third leg) and Serena Clark (anchor) dropped a 43.45 in the finals for the win – the No. 7 all-time mark for Tech.

 

Temitope Adesina opened her outdoor season winning the section A high jump. Adeshina cleared 1.87m (6-1 ½), bowing out as the only jumper in the field while attempting 1.93m (6-4). Her mark puts her No. 3 all-time for Tech.

 

Antoine Andrews won his 110m hurdles final race with a wind-aided time of 13.37 (2.4w) as it goes down as the No. 6 all-time wind-aided time for Tech. In the women’s 100m final, Colbert added another title along with her 4×100 win earlier. The Arizona native clocked in at 11.13 (1.6w) – No. 6 all-time for Tech.

 

Edward Rush took the men’s mile with a time of 4:01.25. Last night on the DMR, he split 3:58.16. The women’s triple saw Ruta Lasmane takes first in her outdoor debut with a mark of 13.88m (45-6 ½).

 

 

Notables

Claire Lowrey placed 3rd in the A high jump at 1.79m (5-10 ½).
Omamuyovwi Erhire opened his outdoor year going 2.15m (7-0 ½) coming in 7th.
Shawn Brown ran a 20.86 (2.0w) in his 200m debut.
Chukwuma in the 200m debut ran a 23.10 (2.3w).
Anne-Suzanna Fosther-Katta (13.58m | 44-6 ¾) and Grace Oshiokpu (12.94m | 42-5 ½) placed 2nd and 4th, respectively.
Stacy Brown Jr. finished 3rd in the triple jump at 16.45m (53-11 ¾).

The Red Raiders will send a group of throwers next weekend to West Texas A&M for the Jo Meaker Classic.
