Texas Tech Begins 2024 Season Ranked No. 21 in D1 Baseball Preseason Poll

LUBBOCK, Texas — Fresh off another 40-win season and a seventh consecutive trip to a regional final, the Texas Tech baseball program checked in at No. 21 Tuesday in the D1 Baseball Preseason poll.

The ranking marks the eighth consecutive season and ninth time in the publications 10-year history that the Red Raiders have begun the season ranked inside the top-25. Ironically the lone time Tech wasn’t ranked in the D1 Baseball poll (2016), the Red Raiders finished 47-20 and advanced to Omaha and the College World Series.

By virtue of today’s poll, the Red Raiders season opener will officially be a top-25 matchup, as the opening night’s opponent, Tennessee, checked in at No. 9.

The matchup with the Vols will be one of 12 matchups Tech will play against the D1 Baseball Top-25 and will be one of two matchups during the opening week of play. The Red Raiders will close the opening weekend at Globe Life Field on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with a Noon contest against No. 7 Oregon State.

Other top-25 matchups on the Red Raiders 2024 schedule include a midweek series at No. 3 Arkansas as well as weekend series at No. 5 TCU and at home against No. 16 Texas.

The ranking is one of two rankings the Red Raiders have earned this preseason, as Tech was tabbed the No. 28 team in the Perfect Game 2024 rankings.

As previously mentioned, the Red Raiders open the regular season on Feb. 16 with the matchup against the ninth-ranked Vols. First pitch from Globe Life Field is set for 7 p.m.
